Melanie Cooper is a visual artist who has recently completed a PhD in Art History at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Driven by an interest in eighteenth-century studies and Greek mythology, her thesis is titled Beings of Nature and Reason: Mythological Masculinities in Early Eighteenth-Century French Art and Visual Culture. Melanie’s research interests are interdisciplinary and include representations of gender, sexuality, natural history, philosophy and early modern evolutionism.
Melanie’s practice as a non-representational painter also crosses material boundaries and embraces the techniques of drawing, rug making and knitting. Inspired by intuitive responses to place, memory, and identity, making art further indulges her love of process, text, history, place, story telling and mythologising.
